Are you searching for a powerful sub that will shake windows and rattle your ears, then the 12-inch dual voice coil subwoofer is the way to go. These speakers are capable of handling up to 1200 watts of power, so crank up the volume for intense bass response.
Power
A 12 inch dual voice coil subwoofer with 1,800 watts of peak power and 900 watts RMS provides powerful bass response. Perfect for your car audio system!
This subwoofer boasts dual 2-inch voice coils for optimal performance in both sealed and ported enclosures. Boasting a durable polypropylene cone and lightweight honeycomb diaphragm with high flexural rigidity, this subwoofer delivers exceptional sound quality.
A dual voice coil subwoofer gives you more wiring options than a single voice coil model, allowing for easier system wiring. You can arrange the subwoofer in series or parallel to maximize your amplifier’s power output.
The most popular wiring method is parallel. This guarantees the amplifier will deliver its full wattage to each 4-ohm voice coil subwoofer. Furthermore, connecting both coils in parallel presents a 2-ohm load to the amp which produces more power at lower impedance levels.
Frequency Response
A 12 inch dual voice coil subwoofer offers higher frequency response than its single voice coil counterpart, due to the two voice coils being coiled together and intertwined instead of just one.
A single voice coil subwoofer typically has an impedance of 1 ohm, 2 ohm or 4 ohm and one set of terminals to the magnetic wire. A DVC subwoofer has two sets of terminals with different impedances depending on whether you wire the voice coil pairs in series or parallel.
DVC wiring offers the added versatility of connecting a 2-ohm subwoofer to a stereo amplifier in either series or parallel, depending on how many woofers are being used and the amp’s power requirements. This gives you more options when making changes or additions to your system later such as adding another amp or subwoofers.
Impedance
A 12 inch dual voice coil subwoofer features two coils of magnetic wire that work together to produce sound add a distortion free bass. It has the same basic design as a single voice coil subwoofer, but with an additional voice coil and two sets of terminals – one positive and one negative – for added power output.
This makes it a perfect choice for bridged two channel amplifiers or multiple channel amps with different load impedances. Furthermore, with multiple voice coil terminal pairs available in 1 ohm, 2 ohm or 4 ohm configurations, you have more wiring options than with a single voice coil model.
Wiring for low impedance is essential when using dual voice coil subwoofers with a car amplifier that may not be capable of bridging two channels, or when using multi-channel amplifiers with more than one subwoofer or adding an additional amp later in the system. Furthermore, it maximizes power handling capability of the car amplifier or increases output if multiple subwoofers with independent voice coil wiring are connected to one amplifier channel.
