Anyone who has ever made that leap to becoming a health-conscious, fitness freak and aware individual has admitted to being overwhelmed at first. Losing the extra weight and sculpting your dream body takes time and patience. While many people skip the online cake order, control their portion sizes and start a bland diet, it does not have to be this way. Losing weight by eating healthy should always be the goal instead of skipping meals altogether. Everyone has a basic idea about what sort of foods are good and which ones are bad, and they may need a little help in arranging, establishing and developing their new and improved healthy diet. Sounds easy; however, it is not so. When it comes to personal care and household routine, many people easily stray from their path of a well-composed diet. Thanks to the healthy trends recently, there are many tools available to help us make better food-related decisions.
Tools for a healthy life
Yes, it is easier to put blinders on and ignore this health trend, go about doing what we have always done and not worry about anything. There are days when we want to crawl away from this whole, healthy lifestyle.
So what keeps everyone on this quest? There are many things in this world we cannot control all of the time. For example, we cannot control the air we breathe every day. We cannot control the products that others use. And sometimes, we cannot even afford to control our environment or the products we choose to use.
However, there are things that we can control affordably to live healthier lifestyles. Why not take advantage of these to improve our quality of life, making us healthier and happier?
The starting point of good health
Where do you start? That depends on what is more important to you. Most people start with the most obvious and seemingly most simple-our diet and lifestyle. Here are a few tips to start you off:
- Choose as much organic food as possible. Organic is sustainable as well as healthier for our bodies because pesticides and chemicals are not used in the growing and processing.
- Make at least half of your meals consist of the colourful, vitamin and mineral-rich fruits and vegetables that help keep our bodies healthy and strong.
- Avoid processed foods as often as possible. If it isn’t in the form that it grew in (animal or plant), then it’s probably processed.
- When you get a sweet tooth, turn to fruit or sweet vegetables like carrots. Though they may not appeal to you next to that chocolate bar, the craving often goes away after having eaten the healthy choice-your body got what it wanted, in a good way.
- Get outside and be active. Take stairs instead of elevators or escalators. Walk rather than ride, stand instead of sitting, etc. Getting outdoors will give you a natural dose of vitamin D -something most people in our country lack.
- If you would like to start with your environment where you live, household products you use, how you care for your yard, and so on, try these simple steps:
- If there is a warning or danger label, or rubber gloves and a mask are required, you may want to reconsider buying or using that product. Many products are left on surfaces even after wiping or rinsing.
- If you fertilise your lawn, do so only sparingly and use an environmentally friendly fertiliser. Besides the negative environmental effect, synthetic fertiliser and lawn products are toxins that can cause serious illness when exposed regularly.
- Do not use bleach or chlorine products, often labelled “sodium hypochlorite” or “hypochlorite.” Breathing in the fumes of cleaners containing a high chlorine concentration can irritate the lungs, which can be dangerous for people suffering from heart conditions or chronic respiratory problems such as asthma or emphysema. Chlorine is a deadly poison and a highly corrosive substance, capable of damaging skin, eyes, and other membranes.
- Be aware of benzene as it is a known human carcinogen. The main indoor sources of this chemical are tobacco smoke, stored fuels and paint supplies, and automobile emissions in attached garages.
Adopting a healthy lifestyle will naturally help you make better decisions and sound plans, which increases your well-being overall.
